Photovoltaic module testing has two objectives: to establish the electrical performance of the module and to demonstrate that it remains safe and mechanically intact over a service life measured in decades.
IEC 61215 covers design qualification and type approval for crystalline silicon modules. It includes measurement of maximum power, open-circuit voltage and short-circuit current at standard test conditions, together with hot-spot endurance, bypass diode thermal test, mechanical load, hail impact, humidity freeze, damp heat, thermal cycling and UV preconditioning. IEC 61730 covers safety, including insulation coordination, accessibility, cut and tear resistance, and the reverse current overload test.
NTEK supports module manufacturers, inverter makers and system integrators with performance measurement, environmental sequence testing and safety evaluation, and can also test the balance-of-system components such as junction boxes, connectors and cables.
