Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is unwanted electromagnetic energy that a device emits and that may disturb, degrade or disable other equipment. EMI testing measures that emission against the limits set by the relevant product or generic standard.
Radiated emission is measured in an anechoic chamber or on an open area test site from 30 MHz to 1 GHz and above. Conducted emission is measured on the mains port and on signal ports from 150 kHz to 30 MHz using a line impedance stabilisation network. Harmonic current and voltage flicker are assessed separately under IEC 61000-3-2 and IEC 61000-3-3.
Where a product exceeds the limits, NTEK engineers help locate the source, whether it is a switching power supply, a clock line, a cable acting as an antenna or a grounding problem, and recommend filtering, shielding or layout countermeasures.
