General requirements for package drop testing: the drop sequence consists of one corner, three edges and six faces, in free fall.
Corner drop: after release, the test corner strikes the impact surface;
Edge drop: the bottom face of the sample is tilted to an angle of 20° to the horizontal, then raised to the test height and released, so that the edge strikes the impact surface;
Face drop: the face of the test sample must strike the impact surface directly after the drop.
Package drop testing determines whether the strength of the outer carton or inner box and the robustness of the product packaging meet quality requirements.
Purpose of bare product drop testing
Bare product drop testing is performed to check a product's ability to resist throwing and dropping during use. The method of releasing the test sample should allow it to fall freely from its suspended position, with minimum disturbance at release.
· ASTM standard test equipment requirements: the impact surface shall be covered with 3.0mm (1/8in) thick rubber flooring on top of concrete at least 64mm (2.5in) thick, with an area of not less than 3㎡.
· EN71 standard test equipment requirements: the impact surface consists of a 4mm thick steel plate coated with a 2mm thick layer of Shore hardness 75±5A, placed on a non-flexible horizontal surface.
· GB6675 standard test equipment requirements: the impact surface shall consist of a vinyl polymer sheet of approximately 3mm nominal thickness bonded to concrete at least 64mm thick; the surface shall have a Shore hardness of A80 ±10, with an area of at least 0.3㎡.
